House of Corridors redefines domestic architecture by elevating circulation from a functional necessity to the primary spatial experience. Conceived as a sequence of thresholds rather than enclosed rooms, the house unfolds through corridors that expand into pauses, bend around courts, and open toward verandas and landscape edges. Movement becomes an architectural event — shaped by shifting light, changing scales, and moments of encounter — transforming transition into inhabitation.

Located in Puthankurishu, Kochi, the 3,900 sq.ft residence draws from Kerala’s vernacular in-between spaces to negotiate climate and social life. Deep verandas, shaded sit-outs, courtyards, and roof overhangs form a layered thermal edge that filters heat, glare, and monsoon rain while channeling breeze and diffused daylight into the interiors. The courtyard acts as a climatic lung, pulling air, light, and vegetation into the heart of the home, creating a calm microclimate that supports both environmental comfort and everyday rituals.

Spatial organization follows gradients rather than rigid zoning — from public to shared to private — allowing transitions to occur through light quality, material warmth, and proximity to landscape. Corridors vary in width and character, at times introspective and narrow, at others widening into social spill-outs that accommodate seating, pause, and informal interaction. Landscape is drawn into circulation through planted edges and garden pockets, dissolving boundaries between interior and exterior and allowing the house to be experienced as a continuous atmospheric field.

Materiality and colour reinforce this quiet continuity. Warm earth tones, terracotta hues, natural wood, lime-textured walls, and patterned flooring create a tactile, emotionally grounded interior language. Light is filtered through roof gaps, skylights, and shaded openings, producing a luminous yet subdued ambience that evolves through the day. Rather than spectacle, the house foregrounds familiarity, memory, and slow living — proposing a dwelling where architecture is felt through thresholds, climate, and the gentle rhythm of daily life.
