"The PUTHUMULIL HOUSE” is a serene single-storey residence set within a richly contoured site, featuring a 6-meter level drop from the road to the area where the residence is located. This significant gradient posed a major design challenge, demanding a thoughtful architectural response that would work with the land rather than against it.

The home is gently nestled into the natural terrain, embracing the downward slope to minimize site disturbance and achieve a harmonious integration with the surrounding landscape.

A key element influencing the design is the side road that runs along the property. This access point played a crucial role in shaping the planning, guiding the orientation and approach sequence while maintaining privacy from the public edge. The driveway winds downward through the site, gradually revealing the home and its verdant surroundings, creating a calm and composed sense of arrival.

Architecturally, the residence maintains a low and grounded profile, characterized by hipped roofs and clean, minimal forms that blend effortlessly with the green backdrop. The spatial planning flows naturally along the contours, enhancing both indoor comfort and the connection to the outdoors through ample cross-ventilation and natural lighting.

The landscape is integral to the experience of the home, not only as a visual complement but as an active design element. Layered plantings, subtle lighting, and preserved green spaces contribute to a peaceful atmosphere, reinforcing the sense of a home seamlessly embedded in its natural setting.
