Nestled in the quiet, leafy lanes of Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, lies Sukoon (सुकून)—a name that encapsulates the essence of peace, calm, and tranquility. This home belongs to Apoorva and Kshitij, a young couple embarking on their marital journey, accompanied by their adorable little dog, Momo. Designed to be a sanctuary for the couple, Sukoon is a reflection of their personalities, lifestyle, and shared love for travel, all crafted into a tranquil retreat with deep emotional resonance.

The journey through Sukoon begins at the entrance, where a framed Banarasi silk saree pallu graces the wall above a beautifully crafted console. But this is no ordinary textile—it’s a piece steeped in sentiment and serendipity. The saree is the twin of the one Apoorva wore during their roka, discovered by chance during a visit to Banaras. Part of it was lovingly repurposed into a Nehru jacket for Kshitij, while the pallu was framed to adorn the entrance, weaving their shared roots and journey into a tangible keepsake. This heartfelt artwork sets the tone for a home rich in stories and layered with meaning.

Stepping into the dining area, the spaciousness immediately invites you to linger. Anchoring the space is a custom bar cabinet, a showstopper designed with sleek detailing, green interiors, and a custom wallpaper on the exterior. This piece, both functional and artistic, reflects the couple’s love for hosting friends and family. Adjacent to it stands a full-size mirror with cane detailing, a perfect selfie spot that celebrates moments of togetherness.

The semi-open kitchen window connects the dining area seamlessly with culinary conversations. This thoughtful addition ensures that even while cooking, one remains part of the home’s lively energy.

The living room, truly the heart of Sukoon, underwent the most deliberation during the design process. After much thought, the couple chose a warm palette of earthy reds with magenta hues—a nod to their love for the golden hour’s gentle sunlight that floods their home. The vibrancy of the space is accentuated by carefully curated elements, from the Obeetee carpet that was a wishlist discovery to the commanding presence of a tall fiddle-leaf fig plant, plucked straight from Apoorva’s Pinterest dreams.

A custom “mata ni pachedi” painting adds a deeply personal Indian touch to the scenic space. Handcrafted by Gujarat artist Vasant Manubhai, it depicts the mother goddess protecting travelers—a fitting tribute to the couple’s wanderlust.

In stark contrast to the vibrancy of the living room, the master bedroom is a serene retreat in soft pastel blues. Cane detailing on the bed’s headboard complements an artwork of koi fish swimming above—a symbol of positivity and perseverance. Every detail exudes calm, from the lighter wood veneers to the minimal watery motifs on the bed’s bench upholstery, creating a soothing, zen-like atmosphere.

Walking through the hallway towards the other end of the home, you’re greeted by vignettes of the couple’s life. The “proposal wall” at the far end features photos of their romantic engagement in the lavender fields of Provence, France, interspersed with Banarasi fabric accents. Alongside, a Claymen wall installation in soft pink tones adds whimsy and charm, while the mandir on the right exudes spiritual warmth. The mandir’s fluted glass doors with tiny bells open to reveal Thikri floral detailing, framing a teakwood Ganesh idol sourced from Orissa—a perfect balance of tradition and modernity.

At the back of the home are two guest bedrooms, each with its unique identity. The first embraces a pastel pink theme, with a rattan headboard and floral artwork, offering a cozy, inviting vibe. The second doubles as a home office, where a pastel green theme is accented by floral curtains, cane detailing, and a fully equipped workstation—perfect for balancing work and leisure.

Sukoon isn’t just a house; it’s a narrative woven with memories, travels, and shared dreams. Every corner reflects Apoorva and Kshitij’s journey, their youthful energy, and their desire for serenity. Through thoughtful design choices, meaningful elements, and a color palette inspired by their emotions, Sukoon is a space that truly embodies its name—a peaceful retreat in the heart of New Delhi.
