Trivium is a calm abode nestled in the tropical lush and green of Kerala, India. Spanning an area of 2250sqft, Trivium is designed to traverse three levels along a sloped plot. Hence, the Latin name Trivium, meaning “the place where three roads meet.” The home is spacious and allows for seamless transition within its experiential depth. Early morning rays filter in through the front façade on the south. Light streaks across the walls of the living space creating warmth and comfort for each new day. The three levels of open spaces are connected effortlessly with minimal accents uniting the living area, courtyard and dining area into one complete conjunction of space.

One enters first into the living expanse on the top level. The living area has double-height ceilings with clerestory windows to offset sufficient light into the entire home. The open living further guides you to two bedrooms on the same level perfectly tucked away providing ample privacy and seclusion. The master bedroom also shares a wall with the front façade allowing one to look out for visitors with ease. The southern rays seep in through the window creating a cozy nook for the study in this bedroom. The guest room with a passage entry is also placed on this level. It creates a welcoming ambience for those choosing to stay over or the busy bodies on the get ready and go move. The view from this room is towards the rear and the sides giving a perfect picture of the sloped terrain.

The mid-level has a courtyard woven in with the landing of the stair to maintain the fluidity of the home. The courtyard is kept minimal with pebbles and stone paving. It is adorned with a sculpted stone Buddha against the textured double height wall. A skylight above the courtyard allows for soft light to wash over this space. Bamboo, planted next to the Buddha gives this space the serenity of a sacred wilderness.

The final level leads to the dining space that is connected to an open breakfast counter which acts as the division between the dining space and the kitchen. An additional work area can be accessed from the kitchen. The other end of the dining space leads to two spacious bedrooms. The dining space is flooded with abundant light and ventilation through a sliding door that opens into an airy patio. Here, one can enjoy the evening breeze with good company and a savoury meal.

The design seeks to embody the sloped plot completely while simultaneously providing a fluid profile for the home. Habiqube Architecture Studio is a client friendly firm seeking to address all client requirements while aiming for a solution that is aesthetically pleasing and architecturally sound.
