Perched within the serene topography of Grape County in Nashik, this home isn’t built on the land—it’s folded into it. A second home to the family that stewards the eco-retreat itself, the bungalow doesn’t assert its presence. It allows itself to emerge, gradually—like a memory returning, or a thought forming in silence.

The form is long, horizontal, and quiet. Concrete—exposed, warm, and textured makes up its bones. The timber-lined ceilings stretch overhead in deep continuity, while soft ochre lime walls intersect the space with just enough lightness to soften its rawness. A clerestory skylight draws daylight into the heart of the home, animating surfaces in a constant, changing rhythm. The black monolithic basalt floor with brass inlays becomes the perfect canvas for the materials to perform.

The architecture follows the land’s lead. Anchored by a exposed concrete retaining wall, the home settles into the slope without resistance. Left exposed, the wall becomes a defining feature—honest, grounding, elemental. A flight of steps, carved into the landscape, rises alongside it, leading to the helipad above. From there, the terrace unfolds—offering a quiet, uninterrupted view of the valley beyond.

The exterior continues this conversation. It doesn’t perch over the valley or try to claim the view. It rests within it—part of the slope, part of the sky. A wooden-lined façade stretches out across the edge, mirroring the contours of the land and reinforcing the home’s grounded presence. There are no fences, no boundaries—just openness, rhythm, and earth. This is not a house that interrupts the landscape. It follows its lines.

Inside, the mid-century modern furniture feels inevitable. Its proportions and simplicity are perfect companions to the architecture—function-driven, yet inherently warm. The palette remains restrained but tactile. Woven cane chairs, teak wood furniture, striped upholstery, and soft linen curtains speak the language of mid-century modernism without mimicry.

This is not a home that claims its beauty through spectacle. It rests. The horse walking past the window doesn’t turn its head—this house is part of its pasture. This is not architecture as a statement, but architecture as a setting.
